Porto do Moniz is well known for its natural rock pools. In the photo you can clearly see these where the sea waves break against the natural volcanic and man-made barriers that protect bathers. The village not only benefits from a crystal clear, warm sea, but also resides amid a picturesque landscape.
You can gain entry to the natural rock pools for a modest fee. For this entrance fee you are provided with full facilities, including: lifeguards (nadadores salvadores), changing rooms, showers, toilets, restaurant and sunbeds (for an extra fee). At times, depending on the tidal and weather conditions, a red flag is flown to warn against bathing. At these time, just sit well back and enjoy watching as the surf breaks against the rocks and throws up a fine spray.
