The tourist cable car ride, operated by the Teleféricos da Madeira company, runs from Funchal up to Monte. The Funchal terminal can be reached from the city centre by walking down to the seafront promenade, the Avenida do Mar e das Comunidades. Then proceed eastward, pass the Praça da Autonmia and along the Madeirenses. The large glass building, located in the gardens at Almirante Reis in the old town, is the cable car terminal. The facility was opened in November 2000 and has been a popular tourist attraction ever since.
