This photo, taken in December 2007, shows the clouds gathering over Funchal at dusk. Being a natural amphitheatre, during the winter months, clouds can often drift in from the sea and give Madeira's capital a dramatic hue. In general, from December through to March, Funchal's weather is a mixture of sunshine and showers and the average temperature is in the region of 19ºC.
