The Estrada Monumental lies to the west of Funchal and is the main roadway that runs parallel to the coastline, through the tourist area of Funchal and onwards towards Câmara de Lobos. Walking from the east, initially it is tree-lined and bordered by some very plush hotels. Further along, just above the Lido area, the roadway becomes more commercial in nature and it is here that the main group of hotels are situated. Also located here are two supermarkets, a number of cafe and restaurants and an assortment of shops.
