Funchal harbour has two distinct areas. First there is the Marina, where sailing boats and yachts are moored. Here the wall is festooned with mural paintings depicting the various sailors who have visited here. Secondly, there is the large old commercial port. This is no longer used as a port way for import and exports. However, the large luxury cruise liners dock here, sometimes as many as 4 at a time, to offload their cargo of day tourists.
