Part of the fun you get from the Monte toboggan run, is the exhilaration of descending the steep roads, seemingly with a carelessness of abandon. However, as this photo shows, the two carreiros de Monte are skilled at steering the wicker basket around the corners and potholes, and even more importantly, avoiding the local traffic. They also seize any opportunity to grab a ride on the rear of the wooden runners. The map shown below gives the location of the end of the run. If you don't fancy paying the inflated taxi fare, it is a leisurely downhill 20 minute walk back to the seafront.
