During the Flower Festival held each year in Madeira, decorative displays of flowers are laid out on the pavements of Funchal to make a floral carpet. The displays are often associated with different localities of Madeira, and the sponsors tend to the displays, watering them and tidying any stray blooms daily. This photo shows a floral design laid out in the central reservation in Avenida Arriaga in May 2003.
