Children Themed Flower festival float, Funchal, May 2003

Each year, the Flower Festival culminates in Funchal with a Grand Parade. The Parade starts from the Praça da Autonomia. The flower-covered decorative floats meander their way along the seafront on the Avenida do Mar das Comunidades, up along the bottom of Santa Catarina Park, around the Rotunda do Infante and onto the Praça do Município. The whole procession takes two hours or more and is a spectacular show of colour, movement and music.
