Estádio dos Barreiros, the multi-purpose football stadium in Funchal, was officially opened on 5th May 1957. Although a stadium of sorts has stood on the spot since June 1927. The main entrance to the stadium is from Rue do Dr. Pita. It is home to the Maritimo football club. There is a running track surrounding the football pitch and the stadium is also used for various cultural events throughout the year.
