Peacock at Jardim Botânico, January 1999
Start ¦ Prev ¦ Main ¦ Next ¦ End
The peacocks are just one of the attractions of the Jardim Botânico of Funchal. The gardens date back to 1881 when the Reid family built the Quinta do Bom Sucesso. The Quinta had tended botanical gardens where many plant species were grown. The Quinta was acquired by the Regional Government, and the Botanical Gardens were created on its grounds and opened on the 30th April in 1960. The gardens are open daily (except Christmas day) from 9:00am to 6:00pm.
