If you walk along the Levada dos Piornais you will enjoy some panoramic views of the Lido area of Funchal, the many hotels in this tourist district and then the residential apartment blocks where the locals live. This photo shows the residential area just beyond the Lido area. At the beginning of the levada walk, you will pass many residences where the locals have tended their balconies with many flowerpots and window boxes along with the occasional bird cage.
