Tourist Video Guide of Madeira 1

This Madeira video (10 minutes 2 seconds) gives you a tour of the lesser known attractions of the island. We visit the fresh fish market in Funchal and view a local delicacy, espada fish, in its raw state. It is said that the locals know 365 ways to prepare espada. One popular serving is with fried banana. The taste is something special, the look of the un-gutted fish, something else!

Then we go inland and sample the winding mountain roads and some panoramic coastal views. The volcanic origins of Madeira are never far from the surface in this video. Sample the rugged interior and the deep lava flow gorges. You will soon appreciate the extent of the influence that the island's history has on it's terrain. But, unlike some other volcanic islands, Madeira is lush with vegetation.

A brief tour along the coastal roads shows you that there is much more to this holiday island than just the main tourist resorts. Take time to venture out. Car hire is available. Or, engage a taxi for a half or full day - but negotiate the price first. Book a mini bus tour - there are many to choose from - but, avoid the timeshare linked tours. Finally, you could go native and chance using the local bus transport - but, be prepared for some tight cornering on sharp bends with some sheer drops!
