Before You Book:
  • For travel to Madeira, passport requirements are:
    1. Passport with visa entriesVisitors from non-Schengen countries need a valid passport. This includes the UK.
    2. Visitors coming from EU countries belonging to the Schengen Agreement have unrestricted entry.
    3. Specifically, for British passport holders, a valid passport must be held for entry to and exit from Portugal. There is no minimum passport validity requirement but your passport should not be due to expire during your the proposed period of stay.

  • For travel to Madeira, visa requirements are:
    1. EU nationals, including UK citizens, do not require a visa. As a tourist, your period of stay should not be longer than 3 months.
    2. EU flagOther nationals, may require a visa. You should check before you book.
    3. EU nationals, including UK citizens, who intend to stay in any part of Portugal for more than 3 months, must apply for a Registration Certificate from the local Camara Municipal (Town Hall) or from the nearest office of the Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras (Portuguese immigration authority).

  • For travel to Madeira, health requirements are:
    1. Make sure you have a valid EHIC card before you travel. (The E111 form is no longer valid, it was replaced by the EHIC card in 2004.) For general information regarding the EHIC card, visit the European Health Insurance Card website.
    2. Emergency medical equipmentThe EHIC card will provide you with access to emergency medical treatment on the same terms as Portuguese nationals.
    3. The EHIC card will not cover medical repatriation, on-going medical treatment or treatment of a non-urgent nature.
    4. NOTE: The EHIC card is not a substitute for medical and travel insurance
